11 – Customer Defined Fields (CDFs)

This lesson introduces Customer Defined Fields (CDFs) within LABWORKS eLIMS, enabling laboratories to tailor the system to their specific operational and reporting requirements. Participants will learn how to add flexible, user-defined fields to key entities such as Samples, Analyses, Projects and Customers.

The module explains the different supported field types, including text, numeric values, dropdown selections, dates, boolean fields, and linked lists. Learners will understand how to select appropriate field types to ensure structured, consistent, and meaningful data capture.

Finally, the lesson covers how to configure CDFs for searchability and workflow relevance. By properly designing and integrating Customer Defined Fields, organizations can enhance data visibility, improve filtering and reporting capabilities, and align the system more closely with their internal processes.
